All VDS's are hosted
in Microsoft Windows 2008 Hyper-V. While this is more expensive than a VPS
offering based on technologies such as Virtuozzo, it is also a shared
nothing environment where you will have no concerns with others VDS's
affecting your VDS.
In addition, we will also ensure that your VHD's are fixed-size disks,
rather than expanding disks. This provides better performance as there is
not the additional overhead of expanding the disk as needed and the file
fragmentation resulting from that. In addition, all disks will be defragment
with contig before the VDS is started, again to ensure that performance is
optimal.
From a security standpoint, all of the VDS's are joined to our internal
Active Directory and security managed by Group Policy as appropriate. This
also ensures that, should we need to access your VDS for support, we will
not need your password and there will be an audit trail of the logon. Still,
we will make sure that the Group Policy only restricts the most critical
security issues and leaves you with plenty of options to customize your
server.
Because we are using Hyper-V, we also offer, for a nominal fee, an
additional option for backup - snapshots. These are backup images of a
running Virtual Server, so it requires absolutely no downtime. We then store
a copy of these snapshots on a separate SAN should there be a drive failure
on the host server. With every VDS, there will be an initial snapshot taken
when you have decided that your VDS is configured as you wish included with
setup.
Finally, should you choose an integrated VDS type offering, where you
connect to our shared database, dns, etc. services, the traffic between the
your VDS and our servers can be done through a private,
non-publicly-routable network to ensure the security and privacy of your
internal network traffic. For security reasons, there will be certain
traffic (such as AD traffic) that will not be permitted over the public
internet, but only through this private network to ensure that the
environment is as secure as possible. We can also add an additional host
header to our Control Panel (DNP) instance with your URL to provide you with
your own branding for your customers. |
